The Popsavvy Project

A game. A dad. A thousand conversations.

Fighting Obliviosity

Some of my favourite memories begin around a campfire.

Long before I worked in education, my dad had this wonderful habit of asking questions that were impossible to answer with, “Fine.” When we were camping, while the fire danced, our family found ourselves talking about life, purpose, dreams, fears, ridiculous hypotheticals, and the things that actually mattered. Looking back, I think the spark wasn’t in the fire, it was in the conversation.

Years later, Dad and I decided to bottle a little of that magic.

We created a conversation game with one mission: to fight obliviosity. (Yes, he made up the word. Cool ideas occasionally require new vocabulary.)

The idea was simple. Life moves quickly. We spend so much time talking about schedules, groceries, homework, and whose turn it is to unload the dishwasher that we sometimes forget to talk about… well… us.

So we made a game.

Together we designed, built, and sold 200 copies. Since then, it’s sparked countless conversations with families, friends, couples, classrooms, strangers, and crowds of every size. We’ve had the honour of watching complete strangers leave feeling a little less like strangers.

It reminded me of something I’ve carried into every part of my work since: Meaning rarely arrives with a grand entrance. More often, it begins with someone asking a really good question.

The Popsavvy Project has been so much for me. More to come. In the meantime, check out our questions!

Today’s Question

Every week, on Mondays, we post a new question from the Popsavvy deck. Because good conversations start with good questions.

Check back soon for the next question, and maybe bring a friend who loves a good, winding, “wait, how did we get here?” kind of conversation.
